Dance Marathon signups begin Sept. 10

Sept. 10 is the first day to register for Dance Marathon 2007. Dance Marathon executive board members will be positioned throughout the Danforth Campus all day accepting registrations, talking to interested people and celebrating the official start of DM 2007. The schedule is as follows:

Bowles Plaza, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

North Wohl Patio, 3-6 p.m.

Village House, 5-8 p.m.

Northwest Wohl Center, 6-9 p.m.

Additionally, people may register beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the event’s Web site, www.sladm.org. Faculty and staff members who are interested in getting involved with Dance Marathon cab visit the faculty and staff section of the site and indicate their interest. Also, Alumni are encouraged to visit the alumni portion of our site to learn how to become involved as participants, donors or volunteers.

Dance Marathon is an entirely student run effort to raise funds for and promote awareness of the Children’s Miracle Network of Greater St. Louis. The culminating event is a 12-hour dance-a-thon, to be held from 2 p.m.-2 a.m. Nov. 3-4 in the Athletic Complex. The event consists of music, performances, team competitions, games, and a play with the “miracle children” from St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. All of the money donated is split evenly between these two hospitals to help provide programs, purchase equipment and fund facility renovations to meet the needs of area children.

Participants fundraise individually and with their teammates throughout the fall with the understanding that they will remain dancing (or at least standing) for the entirety of the dance-a-thon in November. This is an incredible opportunity for students, alums and faculty and staff members to become involved in an upbeat, interactive celebration while serving a great cause. In 2006, Dance Marathon raisedmore than $123,000. This year, the group hopes to contribute even more.
