Service trip grants

The Community Service Office is offering Service Trip Start-Up Grants, which will support up to three individual leaders of student-led organizations to attend Break Away’s 2008 Alternative Break Citizenship Schools (ABCs) in preparation for organizing a Spring Break Service Trip in 2009.

Applications are due by noon April 4.

ABCs offer week-long summer experiential training in the design, implementation, and innovation of quality alternative break programs. The ABCs combine workshops, exercises, planning sessions and discussions with actual direct service experiences. Throughout the week, participants spend half-days in workshops that focus on the details of organizing an alternative break, and they spend the rest of their time performing direct service just as they would in an alternative break trip.

The result is a dynamic experiential learning situation which encourages participants to synthesize knowledge and skills gained during workshops with inspiring and educational contact with the community and other student and staff leaders from college campuses nationwide.

All WUSTL students representing student-led organizations are eligible to apply for Service Trip Start-Up Grants. For more information about ABCs, visit www.alternativebreaks.org.
