Operation Food Search to collect items as students move out

Save the Earth and help the less fortunate at the same time this summer.

As students move out of off-campus apartments, Operation Food Search will be taking donations of unopened and unused nonperishable food and toiletry items.

They will also be collecting new or gently used clothes, electronics, furniture and office supplies, distributing the items to the less fortunate and preventing them for piling up in landfills.

Donation dates and locations are May 16, 19, 23 and 30 and June 2 at 6188 McPherson Ave., the Lewis Center and 6490 Enright Ave.

The collection is sponsored by Residential Life, Quadrangle Housing, the Community Service Office and the offices of Community & Governmental Relations, Facilities Planning & Management and Sustainability.

Operation Food Search distributes more than 1.5 million pounds of perishable and nonperishable food and household items to 250 food pantries and soup kitchens that offer emergency hunger-relief to nearly 100,000 people each month. Nearly half the recipients are children.
