“Read for the Record”

Best-selling suspense author Ridley Pearson will read the children’s book, “The Story of Ferdinand” at 4 p.m. today in the University’s Campus Store on the Danforth Campus.

The “Read for the Record” event is being held in conjunction with Jumpstart, an organization with local chapters on campuses across the nation dedicated to bringing at-risk children, their parents and concerned adults together to promote childhood literacy.

Each yeah, Jumpstart celebrates this mission with “Read for the Record,” a day dedicated to raising awareness of childhood literacy.

The “Story of Ferdinand” is the best-known work written by American author Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson. The children’s book tells the story of a bull that would rather smell flowers than fight in bullfights.

Copies of the book will be available for sale with proceeds benefiting Jumpstart. Another book with be read and there will be an activity for children.
