Road race for Thurtene charity

The annual Thurtene Road Race, which raises both money for charity and awareness of Thurtene Carnival, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, March 29, at Francis Field.

“This is a great way to get the students and community pumped up for the carnival,” said junior Jeannette Wong, vice president of the road race for Thurtene Junior Honorary. “We will be offering gift cards as incentive for students and student groups to participate. Also, members of our selected charity, Foundation for Children with Cancer, located here in St. Louis, will be on hand, as will families they have helped.”

Proceeds from the event, which includes a 5K road race and a one-kilometer fun run/walk, will benefit the Foundation for Children with Cancer.

The registration fee — $20 for adults, $12 for students and $10 for children — can be paid the day of the race or online at thurtene.org.

Both races will start and end at Francis Field. Costumes are encouraged, and a prize will be awarded for the best one.

Thurtene Carnival, the oldest and largest student-run carnival in the nation, will be held on Brookings Drive April 18 and 19.
