Career Fair, speed-dating and new strategies for job seekers

From a Career Fair for undergrads to MBA class reunions, JOBS will be the hot topic on the Washington University campus this Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. Reporters are welcome to cover any or all of these events.

10:00am-2pm, Career Fair, Field House, Athletic Complex

Over 100 companies will be scouting for talent at a career fair for undergrads to be held Friday at the Athletic Complex on the Danforth Campus. From Microsoft and Google to non-profits like the Guggenheim Museum and the Bill Clinton Foundation, companies and their representatives will be available to discuss job opportunities.

11:30am-1:00pm, Give & Get Networking Luncheon, Knight Center

Networking is the theme for a lunch hosted by the Olin Business School Reunion committee at the Knight Center. Current business school students (undergrads and MBAs) will dine with Olin alumni who have careers in the same fields of interest. It’s like a speed-dating session to find out about a career path and if it’s a good fit for students soon-to-be on the job market.

Jerome Young, graduated from Wash U with an MBA in 2004. He was laid off from a Fortune 500 company along with 12,000 fellow employees early in the recession. Determined to beat the odds of finding work in the midst of a financial meltdown, he developed a new strategy for job searching that netted him 10 job interviews and multiple job offerings in less than 30 days. The result: Young created a job search consulting firm to share his successful strategy with others. His talk will cover basic strategies for getting job interviews and offers.
