First annual Freshman Finale

Freshman students enjoy pizza and Ted Drewes frozen custard in Bowles Plaza following the Freshman Finale ceremony April 21. Sponsored by the Freshman Class Council and the First Year Center, the event, which is the first to gather freshmen from all schools together at the end of the year, included an awards ceremony, a raffle, a slideshow of memories from the year and several speakers. James E. McLeod, vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, announced the creation of the Delores K. Kennedy Award, named in honor of the associate dean in the College of Arts & Sciences who has been a longstanding mentor and advocate for freshman students on campus. The first Kennedy Award will be presented at next year’s Freshman Finale. Other awards, voted on by the freshman class, were presented to several WUSTL community members. Sophomore Austin Wilmot was named Outstanding Washington University Student Associate; senior Whitney Parnell was named Outstanding Residential Advisor; Richard Loomis, PhD, associate professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences, was named Outstanding Professor; Harvey Fields, PhD, assistant director for academic programs at Cornerstone: The Center for Advanced Learning, was named Outstanding Staff Member; and Boyd Davis was named Outstanding Bon Appetit Employee.
