Deadline for entry into child-care center lottery May 27

The lottery for the first round of enrollment in the Family Learning Center at Washington University will be held Thursday, May 27.

The university’s Family Learning Center — scheduled to open Sept. 7, 2010 — will offer care for 156 children of faculty, staff and students from the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years.

Those interested in having their children enrolled in the center this fall are invited to enter into a lottery.

To enter the lottery, faculty, staff and full-time professional and graduate students must submit a pre-enrollment expression of interest form, which can be accessed at wustl.edu/childcare.

Completed forms can by submitted via e-mail to caresslisa@wustl.edu, via fax to 935-5146, or through interoffice mail to Human Resources, Washington University Family Learning Center, Campus Box 1184.

Once the lottery is completed, the director of the center will follow up with all those who submitted a pre-enrollment expression of interest form.

The planned 19,900-square-foot Family Learning Center is being built on North Campus at 840 Rosedale Ave. in University City to meet at least LEED Silver specifications. LEED, the acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a nationally accepted rating system for the design, construction and operation of buildings that use its specifications for achieving environmental sustainability.

An outside vendor, Bright Horizons Family Solutions — which manages more than 700 child-care centers for universities, corporations, hospitals and government agencies — will operate the center.
