Four Brown School faculty inducted into national academy

American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare started in 2009

The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) recently inducted four Brown School faculty members as fellows, recognizing their accomplishments as scholars and practitioners who have achieved excellence for work that advances social good.

The four faculty members recognized are:

  • Sarah Gehlert, PhD, the E. Desmond Lee Professor of Racial and Ethnic Diversity;
  • Shanti K. Khinduka, PhD, the George Warren Brown Distinguished University Professor;
  • Enola Proctor, PhD, the Frank J. Bruno Professor of Social Work Research and associate dean for faculty; and
  • Michael Sherraden, PhD, the Benjamin E. Youngdahl Professor of Social Development.

AASWSW, established in fall 2009, encourages and recognizes outstanding research, scholarship and practice that contribute to a sustainable, equitable and just future. It is intended to inform social policy by serving as a frontline source of information for the social work profession as well as Congress and other governmental and non-government entities.

AASWSW promotes the examination of social policy and the application of research to test alternative policies, programs and practices for their impact on society.

AASWSW also celebrates excellence in social work and social welfare research, education and practice.
