Steven A. Edmundowicz, MD, professor of medicine, received the Distinguished Educator Award from the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy May 2 at the society’s Crystal Awards dinner in New Orleans. The award goes to a physician educator and recognizes contributions to the education of fellows through endoscopy seminars, participation in national postgraduate courses and published scholarly reviews or educational materials, including videos. …

Katherine Henzler-Wildman, PhD, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biophysics, has been named a 2010 Searle Scholar, one of 15 scholars in the chemical and biological sciences to receive the $300,000, three-year awards. The award will fund Henzler-Wildman’s research into the molecular mechanisms of multidrug resistance in bacteria. …

Jr-Shin Li, PhD, assistant professor of electrical and systems engineering, has received a three-year, $391,336 grant from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research for research titled “Robust Manipulation and Computation for Inhomogeneous Quantum Ensembles.” …

John E. McCarthy, PhD, professor of mathematics in Arts & Sciences, has received a three-year, $235,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for research titled “Operator Theory and Complex Analysis.” …

Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton has been selected to receive a Chairman’s Award from Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) for his leadership in outreach and education efforts for the campaign for Proposition A to support transit in the St. Louis region. Rose Windmiller, director of state relations and local government affairs, will accept the award on the Chancellor’s behalf at a ceremony Sept. 17 in the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis. At the ceremony, CMT also will honor Liz Kramer, fellow in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration, with the Sandra Schoenberg Kling New Initiatives Award for her work in promoting the use of public transit among young people.
