A time for honors and awards

Richard M. Hellman, MD (left), and his wife, Patricia, speak with Ian C. Glenn, a third-year medical student who received the first Nathan Edward Hellman, MD, PhD, Memorial Award and Wayne M. Yokoyama, MD, professor of pathology and immunology. The award, presented by Yokoyama, was given in honor of the Hellmans’ son, who earned an MD/PhD from the School of Medicine and died Feb. 13, 2010, following a stroke. Glenn was selected for the award through a vote of fellow classmates. The award recognizes a student who is distinguished as a student with a strong track record of accomplishments and an interest in academic medicine and whose humanism, collegiality, humor and compassion are an inspiration to members of the class. More than 25 other awards or prizes were awarded to School of Medicine students at the awards luncheon held at the King Center Oct. 29.
