Try to imagine an environmentally friendly science lab that reduces, reuses and recycles.
That’s the challenge posed by the second annual Olin Sustainability Case Competition (OSCC) at Washington University in St. Louis. The team presenting the best solution to the case challenge will win $5,000 and the opportunity to present its findings to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton.
The 2011 case competition asks teams to devise a strategy “to influence a culture change to reduce energy use in campus laboratories,” says Akshay Honnatti, MBA ’11, a member of the OSCC committee.
“This question,” he says, “is in line with the implementation of the green labs program being planned at the university level.”
The OSCC is open to all WUSTL students but requires that each participating team have at least one member from an Olin academic program. The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10.
Final submissions consisting of a Power Point presentation and executive summary (not to exceed 750 words) must be received electronically via e-mail by 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011.
The case competition is designed to increase awareness and expand educational opportunities about sustainable business practices at Olin and Washington University. The OSCC is sponsored by the Olin MBA Programs, the Olin Strategy and Consulting Association and the WUSTL chapter of Net Impact.
The finalists’ face-off presentations will be held Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at a public event open to all faculty, staff and students.
