Danforth University Center birthday event Aug. 11

Celebrate DUC’s third birthday with cake, information on Graham Chapel renovation

The Danforth University Center turns 3 years old this summer, and the DUC is hosting a birthday celebration at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Graham Memorial Chapel on the university’s Danforth Campus. The event is open to the public.

The event will feature guest speakers who will discuss the changes that the Danforth University Center has produced on the Danforth Campus. It also will showcase improvements made to Graham Chapel’s interior, which include a new sound system and a new projector, to the WUSTL community.

A musical slideshow will follow featuring highlights of the Danforth University Center’s first three years.

After the slideshow, attendees will be invited to Tisch Commons in the DUC for 4 p.m. birthday cake, cupcakes and a sparkling grape juice toast to the DUC. Those who attend also can stay for a group photo on the DUC’s Grand Staircase.

Graham Chapel improvements

Improvements to Graham Chapel’s audio/visual systems include a built-in DVD player; an HD remotely controlled camera; improved voice and music speakers; wireless and wired microphones; and the addition of wireless Internet.

With the improvements, groups using Graham now have the ability to digitally record audio and video; broadcast events on the Washington University Cable special events channel; and project Washington University Cable TV into Graham Chapel.

The improvements will allow Graham to be used as a remote viewing site for occasions such as Commencement, says Leslie Heusted, director of the Danforth University Center & Event Management.

Because of the improvements, most groups hosting events at Graham no longer will need to rent sound and visual equipment. Graham rental fee will be adjusted slightly to cover costs of equipment.

For a full listing of Graham Chapel’s updated rental pricing, please attend the event or visit eventmanagement.wustl.edu after Friday, Aug. 12.
