Celebrating school partnership

Participating in a Sept. 28 program and reception in Holmes Lounge to launch the interdisciplinary Institute for School Partnership, Washington University’s signature effort to strategically improve teaching and learning within the K-12 education community, are (from left) Provost Edward S. Macias, PhD; Sarah C.R. Elgin, PhD, the Viktor Hamburger Professor in Arts & Sciences; Victoria L. May, the institute’s new director and assistant dean in the College of Arts & Sciences; and Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. Not pictured is Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration, who also made remarks. The institute builds on the partnerships and programs developed over the past 20 years through WUSTL’s Science Outreach and its founder, Elgin, who was recognized with a Japanese maple to be planted at Flynn Park Elementary School in the University City School District. Twenty WUSTL faculty members, including Elgin, also were recognized as inaugural Faculty Fellows during the event. The fellows either have been instrumental in successful Science Outreach programming over the last 20 years or are working with the Institute for School Partnership on developing new projects.
