Founders Day 2011: Pioneering women

Before delivering the keynote address at the annual Founders Day gala Nov. 5, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin met with WUSTL students in Seigle Hall for an informal discussion and booksigning. The Saturday afternoon gathering, a tradition with Founders Day speakers, is open to all students. Later that evening, Goodwin was onstage during the awards presentation and joined in the robust applause for WUSTL professor and alumnus Jessie Ternberg, MD (center), a pioneer in medical research and first female professor of surgery in pediatrics, who received a Distinguished Alumni Award.
