University College — the professional and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis — will host a Preview Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall, on the Danforth Campus.
Preview Night features speakers who will discuss class and program offerings, admissions requirements and financial aid. Spring semester classes at University College start Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.
“Preview night is the most vivid and efficient event for someone considering University College specifically or returning to school generally,” says Robert E. Wiltenburg, PhD, dean of University College.
“We gather together current students and faculty, program coordinators and University College advisers to provide information and reflection on all aspects of the adult education experience: academics, programs, costs, career planning, etc.,” he says.
Preview Night is open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m., and a light dinner and dessert will be served.
A special breakout room will be available specifically geared to WUSTL employees. Most University College undergraduate classes are free to full-time, benefits-eligible WUSTL employees with one year or greater length of service before the first day of classes. Originally founded in 1853 to serve the diverse educational needs of the St. Louis area, Washington University continues to grow and thrive more than 150 years later. The first educational step of the fledgling university, on Oct. 22, 1854, was to establish an evening program.
