Medical students honor faculty Dec. 2 at annual Distinguished Service Teaching Awards

More than 40 faculty and 10 resident physicians were recognized by medical students Dec. 2 at the Distinguished Service Teaching Awards at the Eric P. Newman Education Center.

The awards are presented by Washington University medical students to faculty and house staff in appreciation of exemplary service in medical student education.

The awards honor those educators who have made the most significant contributions to the training of future physicians at Washington University. The awards were initiated by students and implemented with support from the Office of Medical Student Education.

Gregory Polites, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine in medicine, was named Course Master of the Year by the Class of 2014.

Steven Cheng, MD, assistant professor of medicine, was given the Humanism in Medicine award from the Classes of 2012-14 and was named the School of Medicine’s nominee for the national Humanism in Medicine award presented annually by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The award recognizes medical school faculty physicians who exemplify the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students.
