Gregory H. Miday, MD, an instructor of medicine in the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis hospitalist service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, died unexpectedly Friday, June 21, 2012. He was 29.
He completed his residency in internal medicine in 2011, and Miday was scheduled to begin an oncology fellowship at Washington University in July.
In 2008, he earned a medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. While at Ohio State, he was the recipient of a prestigious Dean’s Scholarship. Miday earned an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in art history.
Known for his compassion and caring manner and his zest for learning, Miday also was a gifted artist whose talents included classical piano and painting. He enjoyed hiking, soccer and tennis. He was deeply passionate about caring for the underserved and served as a board member of the Gateway 180 Shelter in St Louis.
He also participated in research and wrote two book chapters for the Washington University Subspecialty Consult Manual Series on hematology and oncology.
He is survived by his parents, Drs. Robert and Karen Miday, and a brother, Christopher (Nicole) and sister, Erica Rose Miday. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the George H. Rhode & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Lookout, Ohio. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 29, at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gateway 180 Shelter or the Harris House rehabilitation center, both in St. Louis.
