New online portal will empower diversity on campus

diversity.wustl.edu to be gateway to diversity and inclusion work at WUSTL

The Office of the Provost at Washington University in St. Louis is launching an online portal, diversity.wustl.edu, as the focal point for all diversity and inclusion initiatives on campus.

“Diversity is a top priority for Washington University, embraced from the top down beginning with the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton and Provost Edward S. Macias,” says Adrienne D. Davis, JD, vice provost and the William M. Van Cleve Professor of Law. “This website begins to tell the story of what this campus is doing to put diversity into action. It’s a first step, one that demonstrates where we are and where we intend to go.

“I hope users get in there and look around — test drive the site and learn for themselves about the great things happening to strengthen diversity at WUSTL.”

The site, which goes live Monday, Nov. 5, has a comprehensive list of resources and programs. It will use photographs and videos to tell stories of the university’s people and programs that support diversity on campus.

Among the highlights include welcomes from Wrighton, Macias and Davis, and a searchable, comprehensive calendar that provides a daily list of diversity lectures, programs and events that cut across the entire campus.

Ongoing signature programs from the provost’s office, such as Diversity and Inclusion Grants and the Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program, are housed on the site along with workshops and academic programs. Student resources are represented, with links to student diversity groups on campus.

The site will be updated regularly as it seeks to become a diversity hub for WUSTL. The offices of the Provost and Public Affairs will be reaching out to groups and organizations on campus throughout the remainder of the academic year and into the spring semester through “brown bag” lunches seeking feedback.

“We want your (campus) input as we continue to develop it,” Davis says.

“The site is easy to navigate and has many points of entry for anyone to get involved,” Davis says. “My hope is that users take that call to action and help us strengthen diversity at WUSTL.”
