Lunar New Year Festival tickets on sale now

The Lunar New Year Festival (LNYF), an annual student-run production at Washington University in St. Louis, celebrates the Lunar New Year and promotes awareness of the different aspects of Asian culture.

Festivities begin with a free fireworks show at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, outside Danforth University Center and conclude with a two-night performance Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9, in Edison Theatre.

The wildly colorful, high-spirited shows in Edison Theatre feature performances ranging from the Korean Fan Dance to Chinese Yoyo to Modern Hip Hop.

This year’s show, titled “LNYF 2013: Across the Water,” celebrates the Year of the Water Snake and explores the meaning of reaching across one’s own “water” — the boundaries and limitations that restrict people from trying something new, taking a risk, or venturing outside of their comfort zone.

LNYF proceeds will benefit Half the Sky, a partner with the China Care Home, an orphanage for children in China, and help fund cleft lip repair/cleft palate surgeries for three children.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Feb. 8 and 2 and 7 p.m. Feb. 9. Tickets are on sale at the Edison Theatre Box Office for $10. To learn more, visit: http://lnyf.wustl.edu/index.html.
