Siteman Cancer Center to open south St. Louis County location Jan. 7

The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine will begin seeing patients Jan. 7 at its newest outpatient location, in south St. Louis County.

Located at Interstate 55 and Butler Hill Road, Siteman Cancer Center-South County will offer access to the same advanced treatments, including more than 240 clinical trials, and technology available at Siteman’s main location at Washington University Medical Center.

“Treatment at a top 10 U.S. cancer center just got easier for hundreds of thousands of area residents,” says Timothy Eberlein, MD, Siteman’s director. “Along with convenience, patients at our south county location will benefit from the world-class cancer care and outstanding research of our Washington University physicians.”

Multidisciplinary care provided by radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and surgeons will allow patients to see as many as three physicians in one trip. This team approach also means a patient’s treatment plan can be determined in one visit.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital installed a linear accelerator at the new facility to provide state-of-the-art radiation therapy, and Washington University will operate an infusion center for chemotherapy. The 16-acre site includes parking close to the building and green space for patients and their families to enjoy. Future plans include a healing garden.

Putting the patients’ experience first, planners at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital defined several guiding values that the designers kept in mind for the new building, including promoting trust, instilling calm, conveying respect, ensuring quality and offering inspiration.

Bruce J. Roth, MD, professor of medicine, is director of medical oncology at the new location, and Parag J. Parikh, MD, assistant professor of radiation oncology, is director of radiation oncology.

BSA LifeStructures was the architecture and engineering firm for the $27.5 million project. Paric Construction managed construction of the new 37,000-square-foot facility.

Siteman Cancer Center-South County’s address is 5225 Midamerica Plaza (map). For more information about the new location, visit www.sitemansouth.wustl.edu.

Siteman’s two other satellite locations are in Creve Coeur at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and in St. Charles County at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital. Appointments for any of the sites may be made by calling 314-747-7222 or toll-free 800-600-3606 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST weekdays.

Washington University School of Medicine’s 2,100 employed and volunteer faculty physicians also are the medical staff of Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s hospitals. The School of Medicine is one of the leading medical research, teaching and patient care institutions in the nation, currently ranked sixth in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Through its affiliations with Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s hospitals, the School of Medicine is linked to BJC HealthCare.

The Siteman Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Missouri, is ranked a top 10 cancer facility by U.S. News & World Report. Comprising the cancer research, prevention and treatment programs of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, Siteman is also Missouri’s only member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
