North Med Campus café to close; new one opens

A new food-service area on the north campus of Barnes-Jewish Hospital will open at 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. The new site, Northern Lights Café, is on the main level of the Center for Advanced Medicine near the Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center.

The new area replaces the Kingshighway Building’s north cafeteria, which closed permanently Tuesday evening, March 12. The closure takes place as the Campus Renewal Project gets under way and the north campus prepares for construction projects that will occur over the next few years.

Seating for the new café will be in and near the Shoenberg Lobby, but will not extend near the chapel.

While the café’s seating is open to everyone, BJH is encouraging employees to eat in available conference rooms or breakrooms. “Our visitors and guests will have limited seating available, so we’d like to reserve as much space near the café for them as possible,” said Laura Ravenscraft, director of food and nutrition services for BJH.

The new café will offer fare similar to that offered in the north campus cafeteria, but will have some new additions, including a char-broiler, cooking stations and upgrades to the deli. The café will have an official open house in early April.
