Kemper Art Museum announces new public hours beginning Aug. 21

The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis will institute new public hours beginning Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The changes follow a close review of visitor attendance patterns during the last several years. All exhibitions at the Kemper Art Museum remain free and open to the public, as do the vast majority of community events, including lectures, concerts, panel discussions and film screenings.

The new hours are:

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
11 a.m. to 8 p.m. first Friday of each month.
Closed Tuesdays and university holidays.*

“Museums, almost by definition, are public institutions,” said Sabine Eckmann, PhD, the William T. Kemper director and chief curator.

“As a university museum, we are particularly committed to the ideals of community engagement and open intellectual inquiry,” Eckmann added. “We take great pride in providing students and scholars — as well as St. Louis art lovers and visitors from around the nation and the world — with the best possible access to our outstanding collections, while also preserving those collections for future generations.”

* Holiday closures are: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the museum will open at 11 a.m. but close at 3 p.m.
