The newly renovated Whispers Café in Olin Library at Washington University in St. Louis now serves frozen yogurt.
This week, the popular coffeehouse debuted cones of Edy’s chocolate and vanilla frozen yogurt. Patti Louvier of Bon Appétit hopes to introduce other flavors within the semester.
“For as long as I’ve been here, students have asked for frozen yogurt,” Louvier said. “It’s cold and comforting and delicious.”
A cake or a sugar cone costs $1.29; a waffle cone costs $2.99. Cups of yogurt are not available, nor are typical fro-yo toppings like fresh fruit and gummy worms. Louvier said Whispers simply does not have the space for a topping bar. However, Louvier is exploring other menu items such as floats.
“We want people to eat their containers,” she said. “A lot of trash comes out of this building and we would like to be as sustainable as possible.”
Louvier calls frozen yogurt a “better-for-you option.”
Frozen yogurt also is available at Paws & Go in the South 40 House and the Village Café; Café Bergson no longer will serve frozen yogurt.
Whispers also will serve a broader array of microwavable entree options such as ham and rice and roasted chicken as well as an array of bagels, muffins, prepared wraps and sandwiches.
Whispers will continue to serve Kaldi’s coffee and drinks like the “All Nighter,” a potent concoction of espresso and brewed coffee. Louvier said Whispers is the busiest of all Kaldi’s locations.
Louvier says the new design of the café’s counter will mean less waiting for students.
Whispers’ hours are 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday.

Ibby’s, in the Danforth University Center: Sushi happy hour, 5 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday
Ursa’s, in Lein House: New hours are now 6 p.m. to midnight Wednesday through Sunday. New items include bubble tea and Mediterranean dishes such as gyros, hummus and babaganoush.
The Servery, in the DUC: New comfort food dishes and vegetarian options including paella and eggplant moussaka.
Fasano’s Diner: New location in the Village (Seigle Commons). Hours are 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
South 40 House: Sizzle & Stir offers new Asian street food options such as Balinese pork patty and steamed buns with seared tuna. Cherry Tree Deli now serves morning-glory muffins, banana-oatmeal cookie sandwiches and Orangina cookies. Ciao Down introduces pepperoni and bacon focaccia pizza.
