Black Sexual Economies conference Sept. 27-28

The Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Work and Social Capital at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis is sponsoring the “Black Sexual Economies: Transforming Black Sexualities Research” conference Sept. 27-28 in Anheuser-Busch Hall’s Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom.

This conference brings race and sexuality into explicit conversation as vectors that continue to shape and control access to economic resources, particularly through the frames of work and social and cultural capital.

Talks will include topics such as the role of African Americans in the pornography industry, how the sexuality of black people is interpreted and manifested internationally, and how same-sex issues intersect with black culture. A full list of the talks is available here.

The weekend will be led by conveners Mireille Miller-Young, an associate professor of feminist studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Adrienne Davis, a WUSTL vice provost, law professor and director of the Black Sexual Economies Project.

Register online to attend the conference. WUSTL graduate students and faculty can register for free here.
