Health open enrollment begins Nov. 11

Brochure to be sent to employees by email, mail next week

Washington University in St. Louis employees’ annual open enrollment for the health/dental or dental-only plans, the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), the Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and the Retirement Medical Savings Accounts (RMSA) will take place from Nov. 11, through Dec. 2.

Enrollments and changes to these plans made during the open-enrollment period will be effective Jan. 1 for calendar year 2014.

During open enrollment, employees will be able to enroll and make coverage changes through HRMS Employee Self-Service. Paper forms still will be available for those without access to a computer or without a WUSTL KEY.

Employees must complete their online enrollment or submit their open-enrollment forms to the Benefits Office by the Dec. 2 deadline for enrollments and changes to take effect for 2014.

During open enrollment, action is required to:

• Newly enroll in or change health/dental or dental-only plans;

• Verify all dependents enrolled in health/dental or dental-only plans;

• Enroll in or cancel the Vision Buy-Up coverage;

• Enroll or re-enroll in the health care and/or child care FSA ;

• Enroll or re-enoll in the HSA; and

• Enroll in, change or cancel the RMSA.

This is the only time during the year that employees may enroll in the HSA and RMSA and may change health plans and/or coverage and enroll/re-enroll in the FSA without a qualifying family status change.

Dependents must be verified by employees to remain covered by health/dental or dental-only insurance for 2014.

The Office of Human Resources has scheduled a number of one-hour open-enrollment informational sessions from Nov. 5 -12 at all four campuses to review the benefit plan changes that will be effective Jan. 1.

These sessions also will include an overview of the five health plan options as well as the FSA, HSA and RMSA.

“Employees attending these meetings will have the opportunity to ask questions and to receive further explanation from members of the Human Resources team about the benefits information included in the Health Open Enrollment brochure,” said Margo Jarrell, assistant vice chancellor for human resources.

The open-enrollment meeting schedule, listed below, also will be included in the open-enrollment brochure. This year’s open-enrollment brochure will be sent to employees by email the week of Oct. 21.

Employees without a WUSTL email address will receive their open-enrollment brochure by campus mail.

Starting the week of Oct. 21, open-enrollment information, including the brochure and a link to an open-enrollment webinar, can be viewed on the Open Enrollment page at hr.wustl.edu or medschoolhr.wustl.edu.
