18th Annual Eliot Family Night

The winter weather did not deter members of the William Greenleaf Eliot Society as they gathered for the 18th Annual Eliot Family Night on Feb. 7, 2014. More than 850 members and their families enjoyed a festive, buffet-style dinner in the Athletics Complex before cheering on the Bears as they battled University of Rochester on the court. The men’s basketball team won 77–61, while the women’s team lost a close one 68–72.

Face painting, balloon artists and popular caricature artist Steve Edwards were all on hand to entertain the youngest Bears fans in attendance. Eliot Society members look forward to bringing their children or grandchildren to campus for this annual event and allowing them to experience Washington University firsthand.

“We have attended most of the Family Nights since they started years ago. We took two small grandchildren to the first one, and over the years all eight of our grandkids have been to three or four Family Nights. Even the older grandkids in college will ask us when the next basketball family night is coming up,” says Eliot Society member Ed Striker, BSBA ’55.
