Lane of Kingshighway Boulevard to close for crane construction

At 9 a.m., Friday, Jan. 30, contractors will close one lane of northbound Kingshighway Boulevard, just north of Children’s Place and extending past Parkview Place, to begin construction of a tower crane. The lane will reopen at 3 p.m. the same day.

Contractors will close one northbound lane again Saturday, Jan. 31, and Sunday, Feb. 1, as they finish delivering and constructing the crane. Two lanes of northbound Kingshighway will remain open at all times.

As part of phase one of the Campus Renewal Project, a 286-foot tower crane will be added to the Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s hospital construction sites. The crane will remain for 18 months.

Phase one of the Campus Renewal Project includes construction of a new Barnes-Jewish north campus tower and a St. Louis Children’s Hospital expansion.

The Barnes-Jewish Hospital north campus tower will consolidate and expand clinical care at Siteman Cancer Center, as well as in other surgical services and programs; consolidate and modernize the Women and Infants program in part so that labor and delivery will be close to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU); and include diagnostics and support space.

The St. Louis Children’s expansion will expand the NICU, which will connect to Barnes-Jewish’s labor and delivery; expand private inpatient beds; and include diagnostics and outpatient clinic space.

The Barnes-Jewish north campus tower and the St. Louis Children’s expansion are slated to open in early 2018.
