Stuart C. Sweet, MD, PhD, an international leader in pediatric lung transplantation, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the United Network for Organ Sharing/Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network.
His term will begin July 1.
Sweet, the W. McKim Marriott, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, is medical director of the pediatric lung transplant program at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
He is the principal investigator of the Clinical Trials in Organ Transplantation in Children Program, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This multicenter, collaborative group initially was funded to study the role that viral infections play in lung transplant outcomes, and has since received funding to pursue a project to evaluate B-cell targeted induction in pediatric lung transplant recipients.
Sweet also is a board member of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
