New Medical Campus staff garage opens in phases

The new staff garage on Duncan Avenue on the Washington University Medical Campus now is open to a limited number of parkers. St. Louis College of Pharmacy students began using the garage Aug. 17, and Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College students are scheduled to begin using it Aug. 26. As construction around the garage area finishes, staff will be able to begin parking there.

“Opening in phases serves a couple of purposes,” said Ramona Tumblin-Rucker, BJC project manager. “Two entrance and exit gates to the new garage will not yet be open while we complete the new road along the south of the garages. And limiting the number of parkers will prevent traffic tie-ups.”

The next phase will entail moving all parkers from the Duncan-Taylor garage to the new staff garage at the end of the month. That will enable contractors to close access to the Duncan-Taylor garage and complete the access road to Taylor Avenue.

Once the access road is completed and parking assignments decided, staff will be notified.

Public safety officers will direct traffic throughout the phased opening to help keep traffic flowing while everyone adjusts to the new parking situation.
