Mardis named editor-in-chief of case studies journal

Mardis

Elaine R. Mardis, PhD, the Robert E. and Louise F. Dunn Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named editor-in-chief of the journal Molecular Case Studies, published by Cold Spring Harbor Press.

The new, open-access, international journal will focus on precision medicine and individual sequencing case studies. The journal covers the fields of cancer, complex diseases, monogenic disorders, neurological conditions, orphan diseases, infectious diseases and pharmacogenomics. Mardis hopes the journal, launched online Sept. 24, will facilitate precision medicine by helping to identify new genomic variants, link them to treatments and disease characteristics, and aid in patient diagnoses.

Mardis serves as co-director of the McDonnell Genome Institute. She is on the board of directors of the American Association for Cancer Research and is senior editor of Molecular Cancer Research, one of the organization’s journals.

Mardis is a member of the editorial board of several other journals and serves as a reviewer for Nature, The New England Journal of Medicine, and Science Translational Medicine, among others.
