Mark Rank, PhD, the Herbert S. Hadley Professor of Social Welfare at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, has received the 2016 Society for Social Work and Research Book Award for his book “Chasing the American Dream: Understanding What Shapes Our Fortunes.”

The book’s co-authors are Thomas A. Hirschl, PhD, of Cornell University, and Kirk A. Foster, PhD, a former doctoral student of Rank’s who is now at the University of South Carolina. The book explores the stories behind the numbers revealed in Rank and Hirschl’s analysis of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, the longest-running longitudinal household survey in the world.

A paperback version of “Chasing the American Dream” will be released in February. For more on the book, visit the Newsroom.
