Law school panel to discuss Scalia legacy

Three experts on the U.S. Supreme Court from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law will discuss the recent death of Justice Antonin Scalia, his legacy and how his vacancy will be filled.

The talk, “Justice Antonin Scalia: The Legacy and the Vacancy,” will be held from 12:05 p.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom in Anheuser-Busch Hall. It is free and open to the public.

The panel will include Neil Richards, professor of law and former clerk to Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist; Greg Magarian, professor of law and former clerk to Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens; and Lee Epstein, the Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor.

Richards is an internationally known expert on privacy law and the First Amendment. He has taught on First Amendment theory, the Constitution and information privacy.

Magarian is an expert on freedom of speech and the law of politics. He has written widely on Constitutional law, regulation of political parties and the relationship between church and state. He is working on book about the history of the Supreme Court.

Epstein is one of the country’s foremost experts on the Supreme Court. She has published extensively on the behavior of judges. Her book, “The Behavior of Federal Judges,” was published in 2013. She teaches on constitutional law, judge behavior and the Supreme Court.
