Obituary: H. Edwin Trusheim, emeritus trustee, 88

H. Edwin Trusheim, emeritus trustee of the board of Washington University in St. Louis, died March 23, 2016. He was 88.

Trusheim, who lived in Edina, Minn., had retired from his role as chairman of General American Life Insurance Co. He had joined the company as treasurer in 1964. In 1981, he was elected president and CEO of General American.

Trusheim earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia College in 1948 and a master’s in political science from Northwestern University in 1950.

He once served on the boards of directors for Laclede Gas Co., Maritz Inc. and The Muny, among others, and was chair of Kiel Center.

Trusheim was elected to the university’s Board of Trustees in 1983 and served on various committees over the years. For example, he served on the Investments Committee several times, including from 1996-2006 and had several stints as chair of that committee. He also served on the Asset Management, University Finance, Medical Finance and Executive committees.

He became an emeritus trustee in 1998.

A private family service was held in Minneapolis in March.
