Global Health Week events planned

Nutrition, HIV, health careers among topics

Washington University in St. Louis is dedicated to finding solutions for some of the world’s largest challenges; a set of activities and events next week will focus on the many facets of one challenge that affects all of us.

Global Health Week programs begin Monday, Feb. 26, and run until Thursday, March 1. The panel discussions and screenings, organized by Washington University’s Global Health Student Advisory Committee, are designed to educate and engage the community on a wide range of health-care issues.

Topics to be discussed and explored include nutrition and food security; gender and HIV transmission and treatment disparities; and global health careers. A documentary screening, presented by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, also will be part of the week’s lineup. It features filmmaker Carl Gierstorfer and Science magazine writer Jon Cohen’s reporting on Ebola and HIV/AIDS.

The events are free and open to the public; visit the Global Health Week website to learn more and register. Global Health Week is sponsored by the McDonnell International Scholars Academy and the Global Health Center at the university’s Institute for Public Health. The week is also co-sponsored by all seven schools at Washington University.
