Evans named associate university librarian​

Meredith Evans, PhD, joined the staff of Washington University Libraries as associate university librarian in November.

Among her duties, Evans oversees the Department of Special Collections, which includes the Film and Media Archive, Manuscripts, the Modern Graphic History Library, Preservation, Rare Books, and University Archives.

Evans has extensive expertise in developing and processing collections, applying archival and library technologies, fundraising and managing people.

She comes to Washington University in St. Louis from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she was associate university librarian for special collections. Earlier, she was curator of printed materials at Atlanta University Center’s library, and participated on an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-funded project to process and digitize the papers and books of Martin Luther King Jr. in collaboration with Boston University’s Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center.

In addition, Evans directed the Special Collections Research Center at George Washington University, where she obtained important collections supported by financial gifts and grants.

Evans earned a master of library science from Clark Atlanta University and master’s degree in public history at North Carolina State University. Her doctorate is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Evans has taught library science courses at several universities, including North Carolina Central University, Clark Atlanta Univerrsity, San Jose State University and Wayne State University.

colleagues to further build our collections and to document history in
new and innovative ways,” Evans said.
