From the classroom to the community

Emily Hawkey (left) and Cristina Greavu (right), graduate students in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, work with Jodi Polzin, visiting assistant professor, on a community project in Pagedale, Mo., May 2. Volunteers from WUSTL and the City of Pagedale — with support from St. Louis nonprofit organization Beyond Housing — spent the day working with residents of the 6500 block of Whitney Avenue to add bushes, fruit trees, flowerbeds and other individualized landscaping. The project was organized by graduate students Kate Lafsky, Megan Roy and Tim Wooster as part of Polzin’s architecture seminar “Reconsidering the Margin: Places of Meeting, Spaces of Transformation,” which was funded in part by a grant from the Gephardt Institute for Public Service.
