Young-Shin Jun, PhD, assistant professor of energy, environmental and chemical engineering, has received a one-year, $67,572 subaward from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through Shaw Environmental Inc. for research titled “Aquifer Storage, Treatment, and Recovery-Based Water Reuse: Mechanisms and Kinetics of Oxidation and Dissolution of Arsenic-Containing Pyrite.” …

Henric Krawczynski, PhD, associate professor of physics in Arts & Sciences, has received a one-year, $244,472 subcontract from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for research titled “A CdZnTe Detector for MRI-Compatible Spect Systems.” …

Gregorio Sicard, MD, the Eugene M. Bricker Professor of Surgery and professor of radiology, executive vice chairman of the Department of Surgery and chief of the vascular surgery section, received the 2010 Hero with a Heart Award from the National Marfan Foundation March 6. …

Steven Teitelbaum, MD, the Wilma and Roswell Messing Professor of Pathology and Immunology, has received a two-year, $758,216 grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases for research titled “CDC 42 BIM and the Osteoclast.” This grant is supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Carter C. Revard, PhD, professor emeritus of English in Arts & Sciences, gave poetry readings at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas, March 1 and at Kansas City Public Library March 2. He also visited Park University in Kansas City March 3.
