Lt. Gen. George J. Flynn, deputy commandant for combat development and integration for the U.S. Marine Corps, will share experiences from a distinguished 30-year military career at a Leadership Symposium Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis.

The event is part of Marine Week festivities taking place in St. Louis June 20-26.
Flynn will present “How Does the Marine Corps Know It’s Solving the Right Problems? Global Lessons From the Front Lines to Ensure Clear Objectives and Better Outcomes” in the Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center on the Danforth Campus.

“Marine Corps Leadership Seminars (MCLS) are intended to showcase Marine Corps leadership in many diverse communities throughout the United States,” says Col. Kenneth D. Dunn, retired. “We are very pleased that Lt. Gen. George J. Flynn has agreed to come to Olin Business School as part of this MCLS to talk to us about leadership at the highest levels of the Marine Corps.
“Long recognized as one of the corps’ premier thinkers, Lt. Gen. Flynn will address us in one of his last appearances before he transfers to the Pentagon as a member of the Joint (Chiefs of) Staff. Our audience will have the opportunity to hear Gen. Flynn’s unique perspective on how Marines identify and solve problems at the three- and four-star levels.”
As chief innovation officer for the Marines, Flynn is responsible for the ongoing doctrine and training that prepare the more than 200,000 men and women in Marine uniforms to better do their jobs.
Flynn, a three-star general, will provide leadership insights from his more than 30-year career as a global problem solver.
A distinguished graduate of the College of Naval Command and Staff and the National War College, Flynn has been commanding general of Marine Corps Combat Development Command since 2008. His recent staff assignments include chief of staff and director of the Command Support Center, United States Special Operations Command, from 2004-06 and deputy commanding general of the multinational corps in Iraq in 2008.
Flynn’s talk is one of more than two dozen events scheduled in St. Louis during the third annual Marine Week. Similar to the Navy’s popular Fleet Week events, Marine Week features concerts, task force demonstrations and lectures designed to share the history and traditions of the U.S. Marine Corps with the American public.
