Timothy J. Eberlein, MD, the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Distinguished Professor and director of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the School of Medicine, has been elected chair of the American College of Surgeons Board of Regents.

Kris Campa is the first graduate of the John B. Ervin Scholars Program to lead it. He mentors students in his capacity as Ervin director and while teaching creative writing in University College.

Mark McDaniel, a professor of psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences, won a $60,164 grant from the National Science Foundation for a project aimed at giving students effective learning strategies for STEM courses.

Patricia Weisensee, an assistant professor at the McKelvey School of Engineering, won a $351,971 National Science Foundation grant to support a new study of condensation in fluid refrigerants.

Bethany Millar, a manager of education services at Washington University School of Medicine, received the Debra L. Dooley GME Program Coordinator Excellence Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. She is the medical school’s first program administrator to win this award in more than a decade.

Anuradhika Puri, a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Chemistry in Arts & Sciences, won the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association’s Milton Safenowitz Postdoctoral Fellowship.

A team of researchers, led by Rohit Pappu at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, focused on defining the features of condensate boundaries. They found that within condensates — molecular communities that make up the building blocks of life — the molecules’ organization resembles the hub-and-spoke structure of airports.

Robert Poirier, MD, an associate professor and clinical chief of emergency medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the 2022 Goodman Legacy Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Mathematician Soumendra Lahiri, in Arts & Sciences, received two grants from the National Science Foundation for collaborative research projects.

At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting Dec. 2, several faculty members were granted tenure. Their new roles took effect Dec. 2.
