Washington University celebrates its allées on Arbor Day
In honor of Arbor Day on Friday, April 27, Washington University in St. Louis is celebrating its four allées — tree-lined paths that shade walkways, clean our air and make walking on campus one of the great joys of working and studying at the university.
Honoring an American basswood on Arbor Day
Washington University in St. Louis is home to more than 4,000 trees. But this Arbor Day, Kent Theiling, grounds and landscape design manager, would like to recognize one special tree: the American basswood in Brookings Quadrangle. With a 48-inch trunk diameter, the tree is an estimated 104 years old, almost as old as Brookings Hall.
Arbor Day Foundation names WUSTL a Tree Campus USA for third straight year
Washington University in St. Louis is a Tree Campus USA for the third year in a row, the Arbor Day Foundation recently announced. Tree Campus USA is a national program created in 2008 to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.
