Financial expert David Wessel to speak Jan. 31

The spring 2018 Assembly Series programs will run the gamut from national economic policy to the Book of Revelation. Fiscal policy expert David Wessel will lead off with a Jan. 31 lecture examining the economic landscape a year into the Trump presidency.

Cabot-Zhang Lecture explores leadership in China

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the inaugural Cabot Corporation – Xinsheng Zhang Lecture was held in Steinberg Auditorium. The Cabot Corporation-Xinsheng Zhang Lectureship Series was created in 2011 and offers the university community opportunities to learn about issues of global leadership, particularly in China.

Expert says U.S. Senate needs to reform its rules

Steven Smith, director of the Weidenbaum Center and political science professor is calling for filibuster reform in the U.S. Senate.  And he’s taking his message to Capitol hill.Smith is participating in a conference sponsored by the Weidenbaum Center and the Brookings Institution on the “State of the Senate” May 17 in Washington D.C. On May 19, Smith will testify before the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration to argue his case for reform of the rules that are obstructing and restricting the legislative role of the Senate.

Brookings and WUSTL announce Academic Venture Fund grant recipients

The Brookings Institution and Washington University in St. Louis announce the first recipients of grants from the Academic Venture Fund, the purpose of which is  to support collaboration between the two institutions, particularly long-term projects that impact research, education and policy. Grants are available in amounts from $20,000 to $50,000. Interested fellows, faculty, staff, centers, institutes and programs can submit proposals by June 1 for review in July 2010. 

Brookings Institution and WUSTL form academic partnership

Washington University in St. Louis and Brookings Institution form academic partnership

The Brookings Institution and Washington University in St. Louis will begin offering joint programs including internships, lectures and other educational activities, the institutions announced today. Washington University’s John M. Olin Business School will also lead management of Brookings’ executive education activities, effective July 1, 2009.
