Senior class president will celebrate friendships during Commencement speech
Three-time class president Varun Mehrotra says his Commencement speech will celebrate the friendships that will forever connect graduates to each other and to Washington University in St. Louis. He says the university has provided him a range of challenging and thrilling experiences, including the chance to throw out the first pitch at Tuesday’s Cardinals game at Busch Stadium.
‘Earn your own respect,’ La Russa tells graduates
Baseball Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa got personal with the Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2014 at its 153rd Commencement ceremony May 16. “The essence of personalization,” he told the more than 14,000 graduates, parents, friends and family members gathered in the Quad, “is that you
personalize your feelings about yourself. … Care about what you represent and what you think of you. And then you translate this to the people that you work with: respect, trust and care.”

Washington University’s 153rd Commencement is at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus. The university will award 3,030 degrees to 2,899 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Baseball Hall of Famer Tony La Russa will deliver the 2014 Commencement address and receive an honorary degree.
Temple Grandin, Henry Bloch and Tony La Russa among six to receive honorary degrees
Washington University in St. Louis will award six honorary degrees during the university’s 153rd Commencement May 16. During the ceremony, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus, WUSTL will bestow academic degrees on approximately 2,800 members of the Class of 2014.
School of Medicine Commencement speakers
The School of Medicine’s 2014 commencement speaker will be Mark McClellan, MD, PhD, a senior fellow and director of the Initiative on Value and Innovation in Health Care at the Brookings Institution. Several other commencement speakers also have been announced.
The time has come! More than 2,700 to graduate
This morning, more than 2,700 degree candidates will gather in Brookings Quadrangle for the 152nd Commencement ceremony, surrounded by family and friends, to celebrate and remember before embarking on the next part of their journey. Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory A. Booker will deliver the commencement address.
Class of 2013, grounded in service and study, prepares to step into the world
The Class of 2013 has left its mark on Washington University in St. Louis, and now the graduates are preparing to step out and make an impression in the larger world. They are scholars and athletes, inventors and entrepreneurs. They have trained not only to succeed professionally, but to make a difference in their communities.
Six to receive honorary degrees at WUSTL’s 152nd Commencement
Washington University in St. Louis will award six honorary degrees during the university’s 152nd Commencement May 17. The ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. in Brookings Quadrangle. The recipients are Commencement speaker Cory A. Booker, Marilyn Fox, Martin L. Mathews, Juhani Pallasmaa, Peter Rosen, MD, and Howard Wood.

Children from the WUSTL Family Learning Center on North Campus donned caps and gowns to celebrate their graduation from preschool at a Commencement held at the center May 23. Their next adventure: kindergarten!
