Welcoming the Class of 2023
The 1,736 members of the Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2023 arrived Aug. 17. They hail from 19 countries and 47 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Eight percent are from St. Louis, 15 percent are Pell grant-eligible and 9 percent are first in their families to attend college. Twenty percent of the class is Asian, 11 percent is black and 10 percent is Hispanic.
First of many lasts: Chancellor celebrates final Convocation
Washington University in St. Louis Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, who will step down next spring after 24 years, delivered his 21st and final Convocation address to the 1,800 cheering members of the Class of 2022. The largely ad-libbed speech had more laughs, more applause and more emotion than its predecessors.

These remarks were delivered by Mark S. Wrighton, chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis, at the academic convocation for the Class of 2021, held Aug. 24, 2017 in the field house of the Athletic Complex.

Washington University welcomes the Class of 2019 on Thursday, Aug. 20. Students move into the South 40, meet their residential advisors and fellow dorm residents, and later in the day celebrate Convocation, one of the university’s most colorful traditions.
Chancellor Wrighton welcomes, challenges Class of 2018 in Convocation address
More than 1,700 members of the Class of 2018, along with new transfer and exchange students, came together for the first time at Washington University’s Convocation, held Aug. 21 in the Athletic Complex Field House. An annual orientation event, Convocation is an opportunity for administrators, faculty and current students to formally welcome new students and their parents into the WUSTL community.
Welcome, Class of 2017!
About 1,600 freshmen moved onto the WUSTL campus last week to begin their college careers. Upperclass student volunteers (seen here, at a pep rally) help newcomers get settled and adjust to their first year of college life. Classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 27.
