Cordell Institute signs ‘Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace’

Washington University’s newly launched Cordell Institute for Policy in Medicine & Law has signed on as one of the early signatories of French President Emanuel Macron’s “Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace,” announced Nov. 12 as part of the peace forum commemorating 100 years since the ending of World War I.

WashU Expert: Preventing WannaCry, other ransomware attacks

The newest computer ransomware to hit on a global scale first appeared late last week. Dubbed “WannaCry,” the malware attacks computers, then demands a ransom in Bitcoin to regain the ability to access files. A cybersecurity expert at Washington University in St. Louis says programmers were aware of the potential trouble months ago, but playing catch-up to remedy the problem is difficult.

Shen to talk about cybersecurity in U.S.-China relations

Dingli Shen, professor of international relations at Fudan University and vice dean of Fudan University’s Institute of International Studies, will present the Cabot Corporation-Xinsheng Zhang Lecture on “Cybersecurity in U.S.-China Relations,” Monday, Feb. 8, in the Clark-Fox Forum in Hillman Hall.
