New funding speeds identification of drugs to prevent Alzheimer’s
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has boosted
funding for the first large-scale clinical trial aimed at identifying
drugs to stop or slow Alzheimer’s disease in people who are destined to
get it. The trial is led by Randall Bateman, MD.
Investigational drugs chosen for major Alzheimer’s prevention trial
Leading scientists have selected the first drugs to
be evaluated in a worldwide clinical trial to determine whether they can
prevent Alzheimer’s disease. The pioneering trial, expected to
start by early 2013, initially will test three promising drugs, each
designed to target Alzheimer’s in different ways.
