Steven Fazzari to be installed as the Bert A. and Jeanette L. Lynch Distinguished Professor

Steven Fazzari, PhD, will be installed as the Bert A. and Jeanette L. Lynch Distinguished Professor in a ceremony on Monday, April 21. He is the first  to receive this distinction in the Department of Economics, thanks to the generosity of the Lynches, who have provided for a total of three new professorships. The other two are named in honor of Douglass C. North, PhD, and the late Murray L. Weidenbaum, PhD.; these appointments will be made at a future date.

Some of the world’s leading social scientists will be on campus Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6, as Washington University in St. Louis hosts an academic conference honoring the legacy of Nobel Laureate Douglass C. North, PhD. North, who celebrates his 90th birthday Friday, Nov. 5, is the Spencer T. Olin Professor in Arts & Sciences and co-recipient of the 1993 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.

From a Nobel Prize winner to a 13-time Gold Glove holder, Washington University in St. Louis selects six stellar honorary degree recipients

From a former U.S. secretary of state to a former head of a university, the six notable people selected to receive honorary degrees from Washington University in St. Louis at its 142nd Commencement all stand out in their respective fields. During the ceremony, which begins at 8:30 a.m. May 16 in Brookings Quadrangle, the university will also bestow academic degrees on more than 2,300 students. Madeleine K. Albright, Ph.D., former U.S. secretary of state, will deliver the Commencement address and receive an honorary doctor of humanities degree.
