Anyone counting on a certain share of an inheritance should be aware that in recent years, parents have become increasingly likely to divide their estates unequally, suggests a new study co-authored by economist Robert Pollak of Washington University in St. Louis.

In a case study titled “It’s a Trap: Emperor Palpatine’s Poison Pill​,” Zachary Feinstein, assistant professor of electrical and systems engineering, assesses the condition of the Galactic economy following the Empire’s collapse, and applies economic modeling and systemic risk analysis to the Star Wars economy.

Douglass C. North, PhD, co-recipient of the 1993 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and the Spencer T. Olin Professor Emeritus in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at his summer home in Benzonia, Mich. He was 95.

Steven Fazzari, PhD, will be installed as the Bert A. and Jeanette L. Lynch Distinguished Professor in a ceremony on Monday, April 21. He is the first  to receive this distinction in the Department of Economics, thanks to the generosity of the Lynches, who have provided for a total of three new professorships. The other two are named in honor of Douglass C. North, PhD, and the late Murray L. Weidenbaum, PhD.; these appointments will be made at a future date.

Rodolfo Manuelli, PhD, professor of economics in Arts & Sciences, has been named a James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences. A formal installation ceremony was held Feb. 25.
