Washington University, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and the March of Dimes are launching the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis.
Medical errors drop with improved communication during hospital shift changes
Improved communication among health-care providers during shift changes reduced injuries due to medical errors by 30 percent, according to a multicenter study. NIH to fund ‘omics’ research into lung disease
The School of Medicine has been awarded a career-development grant to support junior faculty members interested in using “omics” technologies to diagnose, treat and prevent lung diseases. The grant, funded by the National Institutes of Health, will help train young pulmonary scientists to apply new analytic omics tools to the study of lung diseases.
Cole elected to March of Dimes national board

National Board of Trustees.
TV series set at St. Louis Children’s Hospital to air
A documentary-style series highlighting patients, faculty physicians and other staff at St. Louis Children’s Hospital will debut Saturday, March 16, on KSDK. “The Frontline for Hope” will air Saturday nights for the next six weeks. Shown is one of the camera crew taping outside the hospital.
Gene linked to respiratory distress in babies
A study is the first to identify a single gene that is associated with a significant number of cases of respiratory distress syndrome in babies born at or near full term. WUSTL pediatrician Jennifer A. Wambach is the study’s lead author. Findings will be published in the December issue of Pediatrics.
