More than 60 of the 118 innovative, far-reaching projects that Washington University in St. Louis students have committed to accomplish as part of this year’s Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) April 5-7 will be on display at Faces of Hope. Also, WUSTL leaders will announce the university’s institutional Commitment to Action, a significant investment in a more sustainable future, during the event from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in the Danforth University Center, 6475 Forsyth Blvd.

A search committee to identify candidates for the position of vice chancellor for public affairs has been appointed by Provost Edward S. Macias, PhD, executive vice chancellor and the Barbara and David Thomas Distinguished Professor in Arts & Sciences, and Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration. M. Fredric Volkmann, the current vice chancellor for public affairs, will retire Sept. 30, 2011.

Washington University, two administrators and a School of Medicine department have received safety awards from the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) and the National Safety Council. WUSTL was recognized with CSHEMA’s 2011 Complete Safety Program Award of Merit for excellence in the university’s institutional safety and compliance programs.

A two-mile section of the Centennial Greenway, a planned 20-mile trail that crosses WUSTL’s Danforth Campus, is nearly complete. A dedication for the Melville/Delmar stretch of the greenway is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the newly created pedestrian plaza just east of Fitz’s American Grill & Bottling Works on Delmar Boulevard.

Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration at Washington University in St. Louis, will participate on a panel to discuss strategies for economic development in the St. Louis region in the second installation of St. Louis Great Debates at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Missouri History Museum.

Henry S. Webber has spent a great deal of his time evaluating and planning for the physical development of Washington University’s campuses. As he works to shape WUSTL’s future, he also looks for guidance from its past.

Washington University is making several improvements to ensure the safety of faculty, staff and students living in and visiting off-campus housing. These improvements range from physical changes — such as the addition of peepholes to doors — to informational measures — such as a safety video to ensure those living off-campus are familiar with best safety practices.

Henry S. Webber, vice president for community and government affairs at the University of Chicago, will become WUSTL’s executive vice chancellor for administration, announced Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. Webber’s appointment will be effective March 1, 2008. Webber will be the University’s chief administrative officer and oversee facilities, campus planning, capital projects, campus security and off-campus real estate acquisition and development.
